Germany

In Germany we stayed in a plce called Bavaria. It is full of old fashioned homes and shops and plenty of tourists.

This forest is in our back yard. We were walking all over wild frogs...they were everywhere.

 The snails were huge!!!

This castle was near our place. The family that live there are related to the Queen of England who has visited here.

Can you see the covered walking bridge?

We were shown how to find fossils in the forest near our home. This means that an ocean once covered this place and we are a long way from the sea!

Belgium

It's been a while since I have blogged ....in that time I have done and seem a lot..

This was the castle we stayed in for 2 weeks. Its not like castles in England. Its basically a very big house. the owners let us rent the small 2 storey apartment on the right hand side.

This is another castle but is called a fortified manor house. It still has people living in it. It also has a moat and a gate house to stop robbers from the old days. There are lots of these as you drive around.

We visited a war museum that was in a citadel on top of a cliff above a town. There were graves here from World War 2.
We caught the cable car down the cliff into the town and back up again. This was once a dangerous place to live and dates back to the year 1000AD. There have been many different wars here over the years.

Here are the remains of a castle we found while dad was driving around

France

We finally left England on April 1st. We traveled on a boat that also carried our car. I was the first to see France behind me. People can also swim from England to France. Its called the English Channel.

The picture below is typical of many old style homes and buildings in France.
These can be hundreds of years old.

The picture below shows standing stones which are similar to Stone Henge. They are thousands of years old and no one knows why they are there, but they were put there by people.

The picture below is a chateau which means castle in French. A very rich ruling family would live in something like this.

Our home in France for 1 month. It is 400 years old!

This is our family having dinner on the front verandah.

This is the day we caught oysters for dinner on the French coast (Atlantic Ocean). I also caught lots of little crabs.

We visited a French Resistance Museum. The Resistance were not  a real army, they were normal who had to fight with guns because there was no army there to help them during World War 2.

It was hard to speak and understand another language. Everyone has a siesta in the middle of everyday. That means all shops close and schools close for 2 hours in the middle in of the day. This is because lunch is their main meal time.
